Guru Jyothirmaye It is common that we come across a few people committed to their professions, arts and so on. But, it is rare to find someone taking up on an art and social service as a mission and getting immersed in it 24 hours in a day, caring little for spending personal money to achieve the excellence. Such rare oneness with the field of art and service at a fairly young age was acheived by kondaveeti Guru Jyothirmaye (28) and won accolades from National and International luminaries and bagged honours in plenty. Guru Jyothirmaye is a rare young classical and light vocalist dedicated to spiritual, nature and social service. Her learning in music began when she was 7 and since then she has groomed herself to be an artiste of great skill. Even as a young girl, she was the anchor on All India Radio and won appreciation as best child singer, mime actress and play actress. She grew to be an all rounder with commandable achievements in academics, sports and games and fine arts. The school records placed her as the best student. Because of her keen interest in music, unhesitatingly she rejected a seat in medicine. She acquired a Post Graduate Degree and a Diploma in Computers and a Certificate in Teaching. Guru Jyothirmaye studied a Post Graduate Level Course in Carnatic Music in TTD and received training as a research scholar in Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanam - Annamacharya Project. Besides vocal training she studied and researched Annamayya Sankeertanas as literature and she was awarded First Class in her course. On completion of the successful training, she took up the propogation of Annamacharya Sankeertanas and social service. ‘Sankeertana and Seva’ as the motto Annamayya Kala Peetam was established by Guru Jyothirmaye in Hyderabad. Later, Guru Kondaveeti Guru Jyothirmaye International Trust was formed, through which she performed unique and never before activities. Normally, many artistes confine themselves to concerts in the rigid framework of tradition. But, as an experimenter with keenness for innovation, Guru Jyothirmaye, besides giving concerts, is propagating them to the enlightenment of the deprived people in society. She undertakes to train the blind, the physically and mentally challenged, juvenile delinquents, women prisoners, the destitutes and also conducts service activities for the protection of animals and nature. She also extends her support to the players like young grand master Hari Krishna. In association with Lions Trust, she is working for the rejuvination of rural libraries. She has also donated the books printed in braille along with the CDs on Annamayya literature for the blind to the City Central Library in Hyderabad, where a special place is created for the first time. For having published the world's great Holy books... Bible, Quran, Indian epics Sri Ramayanam, Sri Mahabharatam, Sri Mahabhagavatam and Annamayya Sankeertanas in Braille for the first time in the world, Guru Jyothirmaye was appreciated and given a place of pride in Limca Book of Records and by Guinness Book of World Records. Annamayya works in Braille were dedicated to the Honourable Secretary-General of UNO, President of India and the Prime Minister of India. She was appreciated by the American Community as the only Indian Artiste, who organised Universal Peace Prayer for those departed souls in World Trade Centre tragedy. She was the only spiritual singer who has been given Life Membership in Red Cross A.P., and Blue Cross an Animal Welfare Society and Forum for Street Children. Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Honorable President on his first visit to Hyderabad met her. On his request, Guru Jyothirmaye sang a Sankeerthana, which he listened keenly and appreciated all her service activities. He released and accepted the dedication of the Book Annamayya Quips and Quotes published bi-lingually in Telugu and English for the first time. The President of Singapore attended her concert, with all the members of his family and enjoyed the rendition. While appreciating her fine artiste is talent, he released Annamayya Universal Peace Prayer CDs. American President’s Committee voluntarily attended her concerts, which is a rarity. Guru Jyothirmaye is training a large number of Music enthusiasts personally and even through Internet. Appreciation of Hundreds of her disciples, equal number of her records and projects and innumerable encomiums which she won, are very difficult to be squeezed into a two page print. Almost totally forgotten five century old Annamayya Bhajana Tradition has been unearthed by her and she has been conducting Annamayya Bhajans every Saturday to propogate. In the programme eminent people such as Padmashri K. Vishwanath, Sri C. Dharma Rao and others were felicitated. Annamayya Sankeertanas in Braille for the Blind, e.Annamayya, seva Annamayya, Annamayya mantram, Annamayya with Shri Venkateswara swamy portraits have not only been the first of their kind projects, but also won her whole and sole rights from the Government of India. Those works have been nominated as reference works for the research scholars persuing Ph.D in Service Sector. This is yet another rarity. A good number of eminent people, who excelled in various walks of life personally attended her concerts, appreciated and blessed her endeavours. To mention only a few of them : Dr. S.R. Nathan, President of Singapore ; Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, President of India; Dr. A.R. Lakshmanan, Justice of Supreme Court, Sri P.S. Rammohan Rao, Governor Tamil Nadu, Sri Nara Chandra Babu Naidu, General K.V. Krishna Rao, former Chief of Army Staff, Smt. V.S. Rama Devi, former Election Commissioner, also American President’s committee, Embassies of Srilanka, Kuwait, Kuwait National Sports Council, American Leader Dr. Dawn W Heins, Dr. Balaji Sadasivan (Singapore), Ranil Vikram Singhe, former Prime Minister of Srilanka ; Sri Vajpayee ; Sri Bairon Singh Shekawat, Sri L.K. Adwani, Sri R. Venkat Raman, former President ; Sri P.V. Narasimha Rao, former Prime Minster of India ; Sri T.N. Chaturvedi, Governor, Karnataka ; Sri V. Rama Rao, Governor, Sikkim. Her service activities won the recognition of Canadian Prime Minister and President of South Africa. The achievements of an artiste get a value addition, when the artiste shows humility and obedience. Guru Jyothirmaye is one such cultured artiste, who dedicated her works to Bharata Ratna Mother Terissa, Bharata Ratna Abdul Kalam, M.S. Subbu Lakshmi, Latha Mangeshkar, Atal Biharee Vajpayee, K.J. Yesudas and TTD. In addition to many State and National level prizes at School and Colleges, Guru Jyothirmaye also won Indian Universities Association Best Singer Award, American International Woman of the Year Award, American Award of Recognition, Kuwait Telugu Kala Samithy’s first Spirit of Service Award, Ambassador of Peace and Harmony Award and an entry in World’s Who is Who Book. In all the countries she visited, Guru Jyothirmaye not only gave the concerts but also visited and organised service activities at centres serving the blind, the physically and mentally challenged and old age homes and animal welfare units. Guru Jyothirmaye’s Family Trust, Kondaveeti Foundation was inaugurated by the Noble Prize Winner, Mother Teressa and was appreciated by another Noble Prize winner Nelson Mandela. As a future project Guru Jyothirmaye is working on an Audio Album of Dr. Abdul Kalam’s thoughts for Children as Dr. Kalam is now considered the friend of the Children. Also, she is going to release the rare scriptures in Braille for the blind children all over the world.
An Artiste with committment to the cause and faith in the mission
taken up need not wait for the financial support or recognition
of Governments, Departments of Culture, Universities and what so
ever. Guru Jyothirmaye without waiting or craving for such
things, with the motto ‘Sankeertana Satkarma’ has undertaken religious,
service and music activities at a very young age and has done pride
to her mother land. She is now a role model to the youth.
